Allie Ziebell is UConn's next great off-guard
The Neenah High School star verbally committed to the Huskies in December.
On December 3, 2022, the UConn women’s basketball program received a verbal commitment from one of the nation’s best high school basketball players, 5’10” off-guard Allie Ziebell.
After receiving over 50 scholarship offers and making 15 recruiting visits, Ziebell did not want to wait on her college decision any longer. She knew UConn was her school, so she gave legendary head coach Geno Auriemma a call to tell him the news.
"I asked if I could call him that night," Ziebell said. "I said I want to be a Huskie, I want to play for you. It was a really cool moment."
The Neenah High School (WI) star became the first from the graduating class of 2024 to say yes to Auriemma and the Huskies.
Pledging to UConn was a dream realized for Ziebell, who had always aspired to play college basketball in Storrs, Connecticut.
"I had a UConn birthday cake when I was little, so that was always my dream," she said.
Currently ranked as the fifth-best junior in the country, Ziebell led the state of Wisconsin in scoring last season at 30.2 points per game, leading Neenah to a sectional final.
Ziebell brings elite perimeter shooting to the Huskies, something this team already does very well. She excels at knocking down outside shots both off the catch and off the dribble. She is very good at picking her spots and moving without the basketball. These are essentials for a guard playing off the ball.
To go along with her perimeter prowess, Ziebell displays good speed and strength for a player at her position. This allows her to run the floor effectively and make the occasional inside shot. Many of the things you see now from the likes of off-ball players Azzi Fudd and Caroline Ducharme, you will also see from Ziebell in the UConn offense.
The rich get richer.
